An "External exception" message may appear during the firmware installation process. In many cases, it is safe to wait for the installation to complete automatically.
If it does not complete within 15 minutes, restart the controller and wait 10 more minutes.
If installation is still incomplete after this time, perform a full device reset and begin the firmware installation again.
